ATCO WAFLW Grand Final Set for Fremantle Showpiece

WA Football is pleased to announce that the 2026 ATCO WAFLW Grand Final will be played at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday, August 23.

The decision to host the WAFLW Grand Final as a stand-alone event on Sunday reflects WA Football’s commitment to showcasing the State’s premier women’s football competition while maximising support from clubs, players, members and fans.

By scheduling the WAFLW Grand Final on a different day to the Sullivan Logistics WAFL competition, clubs and supporters will have the opportunity to fully engage in and celebrate one of the most important events on the football calendar.

WA Football CEO, Brad Wira, said the stand-alone fixture would enhance the experience for players and spectators alike.

“The WAFLW Grand Final deserves its own stage, and this scheduling approach enables clubs, supporters and the wider football community to fully embrace the occasion,” Wira said.

“We had a fantastic turnout for last season’s WAFLW decider in what was an epic one-point game between premiers Claremont and Swan Districts.

“Fremantle Community Bank Oval provides a fantastic venue for a Grand Final as we saw for the Sullivan Logistics WAFL decider back in 2020 which was an amazing spectacle.

“The ground is traditionally in excellent condition at this time of year, while the surrounding Fremantle precinct offers a vibrant atmosphere with hospitality, entertainment and attractions that will further enhance the match-day experience.

“Importantly, we have also been mindful of the broader football calendar and have scheduled the game to complement, rather than compete with, the AFLW fixture later that afternoon.

“Fans will have the opportunity to attend the WAFLW Grand Final and still make their way to the AFLW match, creating a terrific day of football for the Western Australian community.”

The timing of the WAFLW Grand Final, with HART Sport Rogers Cup kicking off a 9.20am and the main event at 12.05pm, has also been carefully considered around the AFL match scheduled for 3.05pm on Sunday, ensuring football fans have the opportunity to enjoy both events and celebrate women’s and men’s football across the day.

WA Football has worked closely with key stakeholders in Fremantle and has received strong support for the event.

The WAFLW Grand Final will be streamed live on 7Plus, while the Rogers Cup will be on the WAFL Official YouTube Channel.

Tickets are on sale via INTIX from Monday, August 10.

Member for Fremantle, Simone McGurk, welcomed the return of the WAFLW Grand Final to the port city.

“Fremantle has a proud history of hosting premier sporting events and I’m so glad to see the WAFLW grand final return to Fremantle oval this year,” McGurk said.

“Top level women’s footy in Fremantle is not only good for the game but also for local businesses, and I have no doubt the Fremantle community will get behind this game.

“Women’s sport deserves its own spotlight and it’s fantastic that Fremantle has the chance to showcase what will be a great day of football.”

Mayor of Fremantle, Ben Lawver, said the city was proud to host the state’s premier women’s football match.

“We’re very pleased to welcome the WAFLW Grand Final to Fremantle Oval and we appreciate the opportunity to showcase this exciting event in our beautiful port city,” Lawver said.

“Fremantle is extremely proud to host the 2026 WAFLW Grand Final. We can’t wait to see some of WA’s finest footballers competing for top honours right on our doorstep.

South Fremantle Football Club CEO, Cameron Britt, said it was fantastic to see such premium football content at the ground.

“Fremantle Community Bank Oval is an iconic football venue and will be in outstanding condition for the WAFLW’s biggest day,” Britt said.

“Hosting the Grand Final is a testament to the demand for the ground and the deep love of football in Fremantle.”

The WAFLW Grand Final will bring together the competition’s two best teams following a highly-competitive season, with six teams still in the hunt for the top-four race, and is expected to attract strong support from across the WA football community.
