The West Australian Football Commission is delighted to receive an historic grant from the Channel 7 Telethon Trust.

The WAFC’s all-abilities football program Starkick was one of 107 beneficiaries announced at the Telethon Giving Ceremony last Friday.

Starkick is a unique WA all-ability football program for children with disabilities aged 5 to 17 years, which runs side-by-side with Auskick and junior football clubs.

This is the Commission’s first funding from Telethon, and Starkick Coordinator Rob Geersen says the partnership is a game changer.

“Up until now, Starkick was 100 per cent volunteer-run, with no funding provided and the program reliant on community support.

So, with Telethon coming on board, it will allow us to put resources in place to deliver and grow participation numbers across the State.

The package adds even more weight to the Starkick motto “if you want to play, we will find a way”.

Troy Kirkham, Executive Manager Game Development and Community Football at the West Australian Football Commission, is delighted to team up with Telethon.

“It’s fantastic to partner with an organisation like Telethon to continue to grow and provide opportunities for participants, no matter their background, ability and circumstance, to play Australian Rules Football through the WAFC Starkick program.

The WAFC looks forward to a long partnership with Telethon where together we can support kids participating in sport that provides them and their families the lifelong benefits that community sport and physical activity provides,” Kirkham said.
