The West Australian Football Commission congratulates Narelle Thredgold on winning the 2022 Shire of Mundaring Citizenship Award.

As the Metro Central Regional Development Council Junior Club Delegate (Swans) and Community Football Volunteer, Narelle has been volunteering in a number of community organisations for the last eight years, working tirelessly to remove barriers of disability and diversity inclusion.

Narelle found and committed to the WA Starkick All Abilities program at Mt Helena Junior Football Club, which has opened the doors for more families to participate.

WAFC Head of Club Development and Volunteers Corey Ranger was full of praise for Thredgold’s contribution.

“Narelle has been a key driver in setting up partnerships with neighbouring clubs to ensure the best outcomes for all children in the area.

In the last two years, as Junior Club President, she’s overseen an incredible growth in participation to record one of the highest growth rates within junior football for the region”, Ranger said.

Narelle also runs a volunteer-based support program for families to discuss and find fellowship from others who have children with disabilities.

This inclusive leadership has helped breathe new life into the community.

Deputy Shire President said Paige McNeil described Thredgold as a worthy winner.

“Narelle’s passion and commitment to inclusion and diversity is embodied through her mantra ‘if you want to play, we will find a way’.

Our community is fortunate to have enthusiastic volunteers like Narelle providing opportunities and connections for our young people and their families,” she said.

Narelle also recently stepped into a leadership position with the Metro Central RDC as Swans Junior Delegate, a role responsible for advocating and mentoring community football clubs within the zone.

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards give local governments around the state the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of worthy individuals and celebrate community engagement of people within the community.
