A significant funding package for junior football has been approved by the Metro Central Regional Development Council.

Led by Chairman Travis Burrows, the RDC Executive Board rubber stamped the initiative which will support community football across the Perth Football Club, East Perth Football Club, Swan Districts Football Club, Junior Football Districts.

In a first for community football, the Regional Development Councils can now regularly invest in the key strategic area of junior football linked to the RDC Strategic Plan and Investment Strategy.

The RDC’s agenda this year will feature investment towards key areas such including:

  • Coach Education
  • Priority School Engagement
  • Volunteer Recognition
  • Indigenous Grant Initiatives
  • Umpiring Development
  • Club Support Packages
  • RDC Engagement and Events
  • Innovation Projects
  • WAFL Club Partnerships

In 2022, the board completed a stakeholder engagement process to create an investment strategy for retained and future funds, which has guided the creation of the RDC budget.

RDC Treasurer Michelle Maynard had no hesitation supporting the project.

“Being able to provide such a significant funding package is something we, the RDC Executive Board, are extremely excited to do.

We hope these initiatives will make a lasting and positive impact on the clubs and we look forward to seeing how the funding is used in the years to come,” she said.

This is the first budget implemented by the RDC, thanks to the support of the West Australian Football Commission and Rio Tinto.

The implementation phase and key community projects will begin next month.
