FIRST TIME: Starkick kids to take over Optus Stadium

The entirety of Optus Stadium’s oval will host Western Australian AFL-loving kids with disabilities during this weekend’s halftime game, in a WA first thanks to Starkick.

Starkick is a Western Australian Football Commission program that supports children with disability to play football in Western Australia.

Established in 2015, the program has grown from one centre to 15 centres across Perth, the Southwest and from 11 June, Albany in the Great Southern.

Recently, Starkick officially partnered with Fremantle Football Club’s Purple Helping Hands, who have been supportive since 2015.

The Starkick game will coincide with the Purple Hands Round.

WAFC Starkick Coordinator, Rob Geersen said he is grateful for the opportunity to work with the Purple Hands Foundation.

“We are so grateful to the Purple Hands Foundation to have this opportunity for so many of our Starkick clubs and players to experience playing halftime at Optus Stadium,” he said.

“The kids are so excited, and to have Starkick players coming from as far as Manjimup, just goes to show how grateful families are for their children to be included and experience football’s biggest stage,”

“Starkick aims to cater for any disability and runs with a simple motto “If you want to play, we will find a way” and on Sunday we will see kids out, doing what they love – just playing footy.”
