The West Australian Football Commission has welcomed a new two-year, $400,000 partnership with Healthway to promote the Go for 2&5 healthy eating message and provide healthier eating choices at junior clubs.

Healthway joining as Principal Partner of junior football in WA will increase access to nutritious food and drink choices at junior football canteens, with clubs to receive access to training and support from the WA School Canteen Association to review their menus, and make any changes in line with nutrition guidelines.

WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said the partnership would help drive WA Football’s commitment to building happier and healthier communities across the State.

“Football delivers many health, social and wellbeing benefits and plays an important role in influencing the lifestyle choices of its participants, particularly at a junior level” he said.

“Encouraging healthy eating habits is an important message we are eager to deliver to more than 90,000 junior club footballers and 48,000 community volunteers to further build on football’s range of community benefits.”

“We can continue to provide healthy activity through our game which can now be complemented by promoting healthy eating choices. I see great long-term synergies and positive outcomes for footballers and their families through this partnership.”

“I thank Health Minister Roger Cook, Healthway and the WA School Canteen Association for this opportunity and look forward to working with them to offer healthier food and drink choices and promote the Go for 2&5 message at junior football.”

Promotions will feature a range of strategies, including Go for 2&5 banners at junior football grounds, canteen signage and education resources.
