State Talent and Draft"
We take a look at the talking points from at entertaining weekend of Sullivan Logistics WAFL, ATCO WAFLW and EGT WAFL Colts action.
O’Driscoll feeling the love after emotional week
Fremantle-listed midfielder Nathan O’Driscoll starred as Peel Thunder bounce back from consecutive one-point defeats to prevail over the winless West Perth in Mandurah on Saturday.
After an emotional week where he revealed his mental health struggles in a brave and heartfelt Instagram post, O’Driscoll led the Thunder to their second win of the season and first since Round 1.
Known as more of an outside player, the Dockers young gun played more of an inside midfield role in the absence of Jeremy Sharp who’s earned an AFL call-up in recent weeks.
He finished with 28 disposals, six inside 50s and a goal.
It was a special moment in the opening term when O’Driscoll’s teammates embraced him after he kicked a goal in a sign of their support.

Fyfe 2.0?
A midfield bull from Lake Grace who can kick goals and is strong overhead? We’ve heard this story before.
South Fremantle young gun Lucas Robinson is already making his mark at league level as he looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow Lake Grace product Nat Fyfe to the Dockers.
The 18-year-old was among the Bulldogs’ best in their hard-fought three-point win over a gallant Subiaco at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday evening.
The 192cm Fremantle Next Generation Academy talent started up forward and booted two first-half goals before he was moved into the engine room by coach Craig White after half-time.
He took less than a minute in the second half to provide a goal assist for big man Aidan Harvey and showed plenty of promise as his bright start to senior footy continued.
The win didn’t come without a scare though with Subiaco storming back from 24 points down in the final term to get within three as Stefan Giro, one of Subiaco’s best with 30 disposals, 10 inside 50s and a goal, booted an EGT Goal of the Year contender on the run and Regan Mott followed up with a classy snap in the dying seconds.
But the Lions ran out of time as South Fremantle held on for their fourth win of the season to celebrate stalwart Jake Florenca’s 100th game in style.
Florenca was best-afield in his milestone game with 35 possessions, five inside 50s and a goal.
Subiaco youngster Marlin Corbett (27 disposals, 10 tackles and seven inside 50s) enhanced his AFL Mid-Season Draft chances with an excellent performance in the midfield, stepping up to fill the void left by suspended skipper Greg Clark.
Tough day for West Coast
Not a lot went right for West Coast on Saturday, with their WAFL and AFL sides losing.
After three wins in a row in the WAFL, the Eagles crashed back down to earth against a resurgent East Perth at Mineral Resources Park.
The Royals were led by co-captain Hamish Brayshaw who’s dominated in his first two games back from injury.
Brayshaw racked up an equal game-high 33 disposals in the 43-point win, with teammate Angus Scott also finishing with the same amount of touches.
Ben Middleton (four goals) and Mitch Schofield (three) did the damage on the scoreboard.
It’s now back-to-back wins for East Perth as they build momentum after a slow start to the season.
Dees’ dynamic duo are back
Partners in crime Charlie Constable and Brandan Parfitt were re-united to inspire Perth to a 31-point win over East Fremantle at The Good Grocer Park on Saturday.
Parfitt returned from injury in style, combining with his fellow former Geelong midfielder Constable for a whopping 67 disposals.
Reigning Sandover Medal winner Constable had a game-high 36, while Parfitt chimed in with 31.
Another welcome injury return from dangerous forward Lochlan Paton, who kicked three majors in his first game of the season after recovering from a broken hand.
It was at least an improved performance from the Sharks after a 111-point hiding the previous round at the hands of Claremont.
Tigers keep rolling
Claremont extended their winning streak to five at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday with Swan Districts their next victim.
Dominant big man Ollie Eastland celebrated his Kia WAFL State Team selection with a best-on-ground performance in the ruck.
Eastland amassing a staggering 45 hit-outs to go with 22 disposals, four inside 50s and a goal, while co-captain Callan England also had a big say in the contest with 35 touches, seven marks and a goal, and spearhead Jaiden Hunter (three goals) was the main man in attack.
Former Dockers star up forward in ATCO WAFLW
Former Fremantle forwards Ashley Sharp and Sabreena McKinnon kicked four goals apiece to lead their teams to victory in Round 6 of the ATCO WAFLW.
McKinnon, in just her second game for West Perth, was the leading forward as her new team defeated her former team Peel Thunder by 65 points in Mandurah on Saturday.
A pair of AFLW Draft prospects, Lexi Strachan and Cara Dziegielewski who are both part of the AFLW Academy, also impressed for the Falcons.
Strachan had a team-high 26 disposals to go with five tackles and a goal, while Dziegielewski was the premier ruck on the ground with 25 hit-outs, 14 disposals and two goals.
At Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Sunday, Swan Districts recruit Sharp starred for the unbeaten ladder leaders as they made it six from six with a 49-point victory over East Perth.
Dhara Kerr Medal fancy Jaime Henry continued her prolific season with 28 disposals, seven tackles and a goal.
WAFLW upsets shake things up
East Fremantle and South Fremantle both caused upsets in Round 6 of the WAFLW, prevailing over Perth and Subiaco respectively.
The Bulldogs caused the boilover of the round with last season’s preliminary finalists Subiaco losing their first game since Round 1.
Ash Gomes was at her brilliant best in the midfield with 26 disposals and Natasha Entwistle wasn’t far behind with 24, while Shannyn Pomersbach booted a game-high three goals in the low-scoring affair.
At The Good Grocer Park on Friday night, East Fremantle edged out a star-studded Perth by 17 points with Mack Webb standing tall in defence and Noa McNaughton leading the way in the midfield.
Tight Bernie Naylor Medal race
Just one goal separates the top-three WAFL goal-kickers in what’s shaping up to be an intriguing Bernie Naylor Medal race.
Four-time winner and West Perth veteran Tyler Keitel is leading the way with 15 majors in five matches, despite his team not winning a game as yet.
Perth spearhead Aaron Clarke and Claremont gun Jaiden Hunter are equal-second with 14 goals apiece, while East Fremantle recruit is Oskar Smartt is next best with 11.
Last season’s runner-up Trey Ruscoe hurt his hamstring in South Fremantle’s tight win over Subiaco on Saturday night, with the extent of his injury a big factor in who will win this year’s leading goal-kicker award.
Another Edwards emerges as Peel break Colts drought
Peel Thunder won their first game of the EGT WAFL Colts season in thrilling fashion at Lane Group Stadium on Friday night.
The Thunder knocked off West Perth by just six points with 16-year-old ruck Oliver Edwards, the younger brother of Geelong star Mitch and Perth big man Josh, having his best game at Colts level.
The 2027 AFL Draft prospect was arguably Peel’s best, impressing in the ruck and around the ground to finish with 17 disposals, 23 hit-outs, five tackles and four inside 50s.
There was plenty of spirit in the club song post-match after the Thunder’s drought was finally broken.
Souths the team to beat in Colts
South Fremantle made it five wins from as many starts in the Colts, defeating Subiaco by 33 points at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday.
Last year’s grand finalists look primed to go one better in 2026 after claiming the minor premiership last season before going down to Claremont in the decider.
Jarrah Hayden, the nephew of Fremantle champion Roger, was the star of the show with three goals, 15 disposals and nine inside 50s.
Goal-kicking midfielder Thatcher Simmons continued his red-hot form for Subiaco after winning the EGT Bright Lights for Round 4, booting a game-high four majors to go with 24 disposals and five inside 50s.
