Ten WA players were selected in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft.
Following Peel Thunder’s Bo Allan and Claremont’s Cody Angove’s selection on night one, six of their U18s teammates joined them at AFL clubs last night.
On night two of the Draft, West Perth’s Kayle Gerreyn was selected by Essendon with pick 37.
Three players from Claremont were drafted to AFL clubs; Hugh Boxshall (St Kilda), Will Hayes (Collingwood), Hamish Davis (West Coast Eagles).
East Fremantle’s Luke Urquhart was selected by North Melbourne with pick 57 and WA U21s player Jaren Carr (South Fremantle) was drafted to Fremantle.
Claremont’s Aiden Riddle was selected with pick 7 in the AFL Rookie Draft by Fremantle Football Club, while Subiaco’s Malakai Champion was selected as a Category B Rookie by West Coast Eagles.
WAFC State Talent Manager Adam Jones congratulated the drafted players and is proud of the calibre of players the State Academy has produced this year.
“It was a fantastic result to see eight WA boys get an opportunity on an AFL list,” Jones said.
“It’s a testament to all the hard work they’ve put in.
“All the clubs involved, schools and the players’ families should all be proud of helping them achieve this selection also.”
