TWO West Australian teams departed today for the 2014 KickStart & All-Nations Championships at Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.

The event features the All Nations Championships for the first time this year, with WA to be represented in both competitions from April 11 to 16.

WA KickStart Team

The Nicky Winmar Carnival held in Mandurah in March, 2014 formed the basis of selection for the WA KickStart team. Players were also selected through the KickStart Camp based on leadership qualities, school attendance, community involvement and football ability.

The two best performing teams at the 2014 KickStart Championships will play in a Grand Final and the top 25 players will then be selected for the 2014 Flying Boomerangs squad, which will compete in the National U16s Championships later this year.

WA has been extremely successful at past KickStart Championships, losing just one game in three years to claim all of the titles since the event’s inception in 2011. This year’s team will be competing for a fourth straight National Title.

WA All Nations Team

The All Nations team will compete this year in a 9-a-side competition as an expansion of the annual KickStart Championship. Players have been selected through State Screening on leadership qualities, school attendance, community involvement and football ability. This is an evolving opportunity for young men from a multicultural background to be exposed to a unique talent pathway.
