The West Australian Football Commission congratulates the 10 WA players selected in the 2021 NAB AFLW National Draft today, including eight from WA’s Simply Energy AFLW WA State Academy.

These included first round selections Charlie Thomas (Subiaco) and Amy Franklin (Claremont).

Other AFLW National Draft selections included: Courtney Rowley (Peel Thunder), Beth Schilling (Peel Thunder), Dana East (Swan Districts), Makaela Tuhakaraina (South Fremantle), Sarah Lakay (Swan Districts), Emily Bennett (Claremont), Jessica Low (Claremont) and Sarah Wielstra (Swan Districts).

WAFC Executive Manager – WAFL & Talent Scott Baker congratulated all of the players on their selection and acknowledged the efforts of clubs, coaches and family members for their support.

“These are all very talented players who have been rewarded for their dedication and commitment throughout the 2021 season,” Baker said.

“Credit must go to the schools, junior and WAFLW clubs, coaches and family members for their support in helping each individual reach their dream of being drafted into the AFLW.”

“Female participation continues to be fastest growing segment of our game and it is clear that the WA Female Talent Pathway is giving our athletes the best possible chance for success.”
