Future Stars set for National Academy InductionTuesday, December 3, 2024 - 12:21 PM

Nine West Australians will participate in an induction camp in Melbourne over the next week as part of the 2025 Marsh AFL National Academy program.

Wes Walley (Subiaco), Koby Evans (Perth) and Cody Curtin (Claremont) are part of the Boys squad, while six WA girls will head east including Mia Russo (West Perth), Alira Fotu (South Fremantle), Alicia Blizard (East Fremantle), Olivia Crane (Subiaco), Evie Cowcher (Peel), and Olivia Wolmarans (Subiaco).

The Marsh AFL National Academy squads comprise many of the most talented boys and girls footballers from across Australia.

All players are born in 2007 and will be eligible to be selected in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft and 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft.

The squads for the 28th annual intake for boys and ninth intake for girls were announced in November and feature representatives from every state and territory.

The Marsh AFL National Academy is a holistic football and personal development program, providing the next generation of stars with valuable experiences, insights and opportunities to best prepare them for the next steps in their football journey.

BOYS CAMP

The 2025 Marsh AFL National Academy Boys squad will take part in their first camp from Wednesday, December 4 to Friday, December 6.

The squad will arrive in camp on Wednesday morning and take part in a training session at Essendon’s NEC Hangar.

Thursday’s training session will be conducted at Deakin University Waurn Ponds, with Friday morning’s session to be held at Geelong Grammar.

Players will also take part in a range of education and team bonding activities across the three-day camp.

Marsh AFL National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer will serve as head coach, alongside assistants Marc Webb (Western Australia U18 Boys), Dale Eames (Northern Territory Academy) and Danny O’Bree (Bendigo Pioneers) former AFLW player and Hawthorn AFLW assistant Lou Wotton.

GIRLS CAMP

The Girls squad will take part in their first camp from Sunday, December 8 to Wednesday, December 11.

The squad will arrive in camp on Sunday afternoon morning, with the first training session to be held at La Trobe University Bundoora on Monday afternoon.

Players will take part in team activities and education sessions on Tuesday, before training at Mission Whitten Oval on Wednesday morning.

Marsh AFL National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer will also serve as head coach of the girls program, with assistants to include Martha Cantwell (Sandringham Dragons), Brad Snell (South Australia U18 Girls) and Jess Wuetschner (Tasmania Devils).
