WA Football Working to Prevent Violence Against WomenWednesday, July 9, 2025 - 11:57 AM

WA Football is proud to support The Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program which identifies sport to help prevent violence against women.

Football is an integral part of Australian culture and influences who we are and how we live.

Across the WA Football landscape, we all have a role in creating clubs, teams, workplaces, venues and communities where all women are safe, respected and valued.

We acknowledge that our community volunteers have a lot to do with ensuring teams get out on the field to play and WA Football are currently working with its Club Development Team and SportWest to gain the best possible reach to our stakeholders.

As part of football’s commitment to preventing family and domestic violence and building safer communities, WA Football are active participants in the Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program (RRSRP), a primary prevention initiative of the WA Government.

WA Football is also a member of the program’s Steering Group, which includes the Department of Communities, DLGSC, the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing, and Stopping Family Violence.

The Program aims to help State Sporting Associations, sport and recreation-based (youth) programs, and local governments to build their capacity to prevent violence and abusive behaviours by promoting gender equality and respect.

WA Football has integrated the RRSRP package across the five key focus areas, Education and Learning, Policy and Practice, Culture, Community Engagement, and Support for Staff and Volunteers.

The resources created through the program now sit under the ‘Integrity’ heading within the Respectful Relationships resource of the WA Football website.

Respectful Relationships Sport & Recreation Program Education Module

Selected WA Football internal staff have had the opportunity to view and complete the eLearning education modules.

That has now been followed by the official launch and promotion of the package to all WA Football external Community Football Stakeholders.

WA Football is committed to continue to work towards preventing family and domestic violence and building safer Australian Rules Football communities.
