Dual WAFL premiership coach, State team mentor Read joins GWS Giants

Two-time Peel Thunder premiership coach and Kia WAFL State Team mentor Adam Read is off to GWS Giants as an assistant coach.

Read joins the Giants after an impressive stint as Thunder coach, winning two Sullivan Logistics WAFL flags in just three seasons including this year’s decider against Claremont at Optus Stadium.

He also coached the Kia WAFL State Team the past two seasons, leading the side to back-to-back victories over South Australia including a drought-breaking triumph at Adelaide Oval last year.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Adam to the Giants,” GWS Giants Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said.

“He’s an experienced football person who has worked across a number of different areas of the game and has a proven ability to develop players and form strong relationships.

“His recent success with Peel Thunder, as well as his experience within Fremantle’s AFL program, speaks to the quality of coach he is.

“We’re always looking for ways to strengthen our football program, and we believe Adam will be a great addition to our coaching group and to the club more broadly.”

Fremantle Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty thanked Read for his significant contribution across nearly two decades.

“We can’t thank Adam enough for nearly two decades of passion and enthusiasm in different roles with the Fremantle Football Club,” Brierty said.
