Engaging school students through the theme of Australian Football is an extremely successful strategy and was the focus for over 100 Health and Physical Education participants at Murdoch University’s two campuses in September.
Implementing the Sport Education model to simulate community sport allows middle primary to secondary students to run, participate, regulate and promote their own in-school competition.
They form teams, design jumpers, plan warm-ups, create fixtures, set up fields, play and umpire their way through a six-week season. It is a great opportunity for those who have not had a comprehensive football background to contribute to the class environment.
The Game Development team within the WA Football Commission thanks Ross Williams, Academic Chair Health and Physical Education at Murdoch University for inviting us to present this module in 2014, making it the third year in a row.
