Freo Footy Skills Grand Final

Gloomy skies and rain showers couldn’t dampen the spirits of almost 200 competitors that had won their way through to compete in the State-wide Grand Finals of the Freo Long Bomb, Freo Kwik Kick and Freo Fast Ball competitions.

The three competitions were the curtain raiser to the Fremantle v Port Adelaide game at Patersons Stadium on August 30.

Freo Kwik Kick involves students kicking in pairs over a short distance to see how many successful kicks they can complete in three minutes.

Freo Fast Ball is an exciting team handballing event. The competition involves a team of six students handballing a football through the zig-zag formation as quickly as possible.

Freo Long Bomb simply involves students trying to kick a football as far as they can.

The three competitions were split into individual age groups from Year Four through to Year Seven. Students came from as far away as Waggrakine in the State’s north to Manjimup in the south and all over metropolitan Perth.

Whilst not everyone was fortunate enough to be a winner on the day, the opportunity to participate on Patersons Stadium will create lasting memories.

The support received from parents and supporters was fantastic and Fremantle Football Club and the West Australian Football Commission thanked the volunteers, including Fremantle Dockers SEDA students, on making the day a success.

“Thanks must also go to the hundreds of teachers for involving thousands of Western Australian primary school students in the competitions from all over the State,” said WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson.
