Broome will host 75 Indigenous AFL players from February 1 to 5 when the AFL/AFLPA Indigenous All Stars Camp is held in the Kimberley region.
The group will consist of 29 West Australians, including local Kimberley products Francis Watson, Jack Martin, Sam Peterevski-Seton (pictured) and Cedric Cox.
Other Indigenous stars from WA that will attend the camp include Lance Franklin, Stephen Hill, Daniel Wells, Michael Walters, Lewis Jetta, Patrick Ryder, Sharrod Wellingham, Jeff Garlett and Harley Bennell.
The camp will feature community and cultural sessions, a kids super clinic, training sessions, and a chance for players to meet local elders and visit attractions, while also participating in Indigenous strategy sessions.
Western Australia has a proud history of producing high quality Indigenous players, which includes 11% of all current WAFL players and around 40% of current Indigenous AFL players.
The role of Indigenous players at the highest level of the AFL looks set to continue with approximately 15 per cent of all draftees in 2016 identifying as Indigenous.
A total of 21 Indigenous players made it onto an AFL list in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft period, the highest number in 10 years.
This included eight graduates of the Rio Tinto AFL Flying Boomerangs program, with five drafted within the first 30 selections, including West Australian Sam Powell-Pepper.
