Leinster Strikes Auskick Gold with New Program

Many children take playing footy for granted, but the arrival of an Auskick program in the northern Goldfields town of Leinster has provided new opportunities.

Leinster Auskick is the brainchild of family volunteers of the Leinster Sport and Recreation Association, who were desperate to provide sporting activities for local children.

Gemma Harrison – RFS Goldfields West Australian Football Commission, wasn’t surprised by the positive response from the community.

“We had 59 kids register, along with many registered parent volunteers.

The program was thoroughly enjoyed across the township and each child received an individual Auskick merit award and medal.

There was also an end of season BBQ which brought our small community together.

For approximately 18 months, there was no outlet for any sport in the town, so to have Auskick make such a positive impression gives locals a lot of satisfaction,” Harrison said.

There are already plans afoot to stage Auskick in Leinster in 2023.

“I’ve been overwhelmed to see the incredible support and subsequent growth that’s come from this venture in 2022.

To reach nearly 60 participants in a town the size of Leinster is simply amazing.

Chris Grant and his team of devoted volunteers should be commended for their commitment and drive to see Auskick take off.

I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for Leinster!” she said.
