The Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club launched the 2020 Junior Football Season under lights at Coolbinia Reserve on Thursday, 16th of July.

Coolbinia Junior Football Club President Rob Geersen said that following a recent upgrade of lighting towers the club now had the capability to host youth and girls fixtures under lights for the first time.

“Playing our first youth game of Female Football under lights at Coolbinia is an exciting culmination of a vision that began 15 years ago,” he said.

“Our Bomberettes Girls program started back in 2006, at a time when few girls played football, and those pioneers had no one else to play other than themselves.”

The significant investment in lighting for Coolbinia Reserve has been made possible through the support of Hon. Vince Connelly MP, Member for Stirling and the Federal Government.

The Hon. Vince Connelly MP said: “As a footy lover and father of two girls, I want to ensure they’re given every opportunity to kick goals both on and off the field. That’s why it’s so important for our female athletes to have access to appropriate facilities to help them reach their full potential.”

“The new lighting towers will also improve safety and visibility, and finally allow the club to make full use of its home-ground for training and home games.”

Season 2020 will see Coolbinia JFC field a record 23 male and female teams, one in four members are female, and for the first time the pathway from Auskick all the way through to Year 12 is complete for both male and female players.

East Perth FC CEO Dean Turner applauded the efforts of the Coolbinia JFC committee saying: “It is wonderful to see the many years of dedication come to life. Launching the 2020 WAFC Metro Central Competition at Coolbinia Reserve, under lights, will be a tremendous celebration of the hard work the committee and volunteers of Coolbinia have put in to their facility upgrades and football program.”

The Metro Central Junior Competition will be delivered across 11 Weeks, concluding on the last weekend in September. Grand Finals (1v2) will be played on Queens Birthday Public Holiday on Monday, September 28th across multiple venues in the District.
