WAFL"
THERE were just the two WAFL matches that made up Round 15 of the season on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco and Swan Districts recording victories over Peel Thunder and East Perth respectively.
Swan Districts improved to third position on the ladder with a thrilling four-point victory over East Perth at Steel Blue Oval, 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60) while Subiaco proved too good for Peel Thunder winning 15.9 (99) to 6.8 (44) at Medibank Stadium.
The round’s results leave Subiaco (11-2) three games clear on top of the ladder ahead of West Perth (8-4), Swan Districts (7-7), Peel Thunder (7-6) and South Fremantle (7-6).
Then outside of the top five are Claremont (6-6), East Perth (6-7), East Fremantle (5-8) and Perth (1-12).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michael Wood emerged as an exciting rising star at Subiaco in 2013 kicking 18 goals in his 10 league games as a 19-year-old and that saw him get picked up by Fremantle, but his 2014 season didn’t pan out how he would have hoped.
Wood never found a position to settle in while playing with Peel Thunder as a Fremantle-listed player and was unceremoniously delisted after just one year with the Dockers.

He decided to make his return to Subiaco but that hadn’t gone to plan either until Saturday when he was instrumental in the Lions’ 55-point win over Peel Thunder to move back to three games clear on top of the ladder.
Wood spent four games back in the reserves to try to find some form before coming back into the league team in Round 11, and on Saturday as a forward he was terrific with his pressure laying eight tackles while also having 15 possessions, taking six marks and most importantly kicking three goals.
THE SHINING LIGHTS
Despite having 27 fewer inside-50 entries, 72 less possessions and 27 less marks, Swan Districts beat East Perth by four points on the back of laying a massive 88 tackles and taking their chances in attack when they presented.
It was a brave win by Swans to see them improve to third position on the ladder and there was nobody better for the black-and-whites than this year’s State game Simpson Medal winner Ryan Davis.
