After nearly two months of gruelling and challenging trials 38 quality players have been selected for the 2016 State U18 Youth Girls squad.

The squad is made up of an incredible array of top talent from across the state including players from Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Wickham, Pinjarrra, Halls Creek, Herne Hille and Brookton.

A team of 27 will be chosen from the squad to represent WA in the five-day National U18 Youth Girls AFL Championships, which kicks off in Melbourne on May 2.

WAFC Female Talent Manager Alison Moore congratulated all the girls who trialled.

“What a great effort by our talented female players, especially the country players who made the trip to Perth,” Ms Moore said.

“We have the makings of an excellent team that could rival the skills and talent of our successful 2014 champions.”

State U18 Youth Girls Head Coach Clint Degebrodt said the players were fit and focussed from Day One of the trials.

“They are a quality group of young women,” Mr Degebrodt said.

“I’m looking forward to working with them in Melbourne.”

For the first time ever the U18 Youth Girls Grand Final will be played on the MCG as a curtain raiser to the Hawthorn vs Richmond game.
