State Talent and Draft"
Nineteen female athletes have been selected for the WAFC Female Talent Academy and Development Squads following the completion of the AFL National Female Talent Search in Perth.
More than 50 participants underwent a series of skill, strength and endurance testing, similar to that of the AFL Draft Combine, at Trinity College on Saturday January 30.
The testing session gave females who are not currently registered as Australian football players the opportunity to showcase their talent ahead of what is set to be an exciting time for female football in the country.
“The players hailed from a whole range of sports including basketball, netball, soccer, hockey and athletics,” Female High Performance Manager Alison Moore said.
“It was excellent to see such a wealth of interest in the AFL testing session and the girls are all very excited about the idea of potentially having two female AFL teams in Perth in the very near future.”
Aimee Ralph ranked number one in the agility test with 8.944 seconds and topped the 20 metre sprint with a time of 3.232 seconds. Stephanie Cain recorded the top beep test result with a score of 10.07. Casey Peet and Nadia Harvey also impressed and tied for first place in the running vertical jump on 58 centimetres.
16-year-old Ruby Riley was among the group of athletes selected to join the WA Female Talent Academy and 15 have been invited to join the Development Squad.
