WAFL raises $20,000 for Legacy

The West Australian Football Commission presented a cheque for $20,331 to Legacy WA at Patersons Stadium today after raising funds from ticket sales during the WAFL finals series.

WAFC CEO Gary Walton said he was delighted the fundraising initiative had raised more than $20,000 for Legacy WA and thanked the WAFL clubs for supporting the cause.

“Legacy is such a worthy cause and a great fit with football, especially at WAFL and community level” Mr Walton said.

“We share many common goals in regards to building better communities, educating future leaders and promoting good citizenship, so in partnership we can certainly enhance our contribution in these areas,” he said.

Legacy WA CEO Glenn Weiland thanked the WAFC and WAFL for their contribution and said football had been a longstanding part of the fabric of the Western Australian community throughout war and peace times.

“The relationship between Legacy and the WAFC forges a new strategic alliance to increase the vital work we do in caring for families of incapacitated and deceased veterans,” Mr Weiland said.

The WAFC and Legacy WA formed an official partnership this year to increase awareness and fundraising opportunities among footy fans.

As well as raising more than $20,000 during the WAFL finals series, the partnership saw Legacy’s Catch the Spirit commercial screened at AFL matches at Patersons Stadium and Legacy branding featured at the venue.

Legacy was also promoted through the WAFC and WAFL websites, and special promotions tied in with ANZAC matches and Legacy Week.
