SUBIACO and South Fremantle continued their winning streaks in Round 19 of the WAFL on Saturday with East Perth moving within a game of fifth position and Swan Districts also drawing closer to replacing Peel Thunder in third.

All four Round 19 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon as positions to both make the finals and inside the top five heats up as the end of the season approaches.

Swan Districts not only consolidated their finals position but moved closer to claiming third spot as well coming from behind to defeat Peel Thunder 11.6 (72) to 8.8 (56). Peel remains only in third ahead of Swans now via percentage.

West Perth then had the challenge of reversing its recent struggles against South Fremantle but it wasn’t to be with the Bulldogs winning 20.6 (126) to 11.13 (79) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

It’s a sixth straight win for South Fremantle this season and a sixth straight against West Perth as the Bulldogs move further clear in second position. West Perth remains fifth but just a game ahead of East Perth who it plays next Saturday at HBF Arena.

Subiaco had little trouble making 16 straight victories taking care of East Fremantle 19.8 (122) to 11.6 (72) at East Fremantle Oval. The Lions improve to a 16-1 record as a result while the Sharks slip to 2-14 and return to the bottom of the ladder on percentage.

The final game of the round took place at Claremont Oval and it always loomed as a tremendous contest with Claremont and East Perth fighting to stay in the finals race.

Little separated the two teams all day but a late goal to East Perth ruckman Scott Jones was enough for the Royals to hold off Claremont’s fight back to claim the thrilling 11.8 (74) to 10.10 (70) victory.

The difference from a win and loss was massive for both teams. East Perth improves to 7-9 with the win and will be in the top five with a win over West Perth next Saturday. Claremont slips to 6-10 to be two games still outside of fifth position with four matches to go.
