WA’s 18 Girls Search For Breakthrough Win

WA is facing a challenge to record its first win at the 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships – U18 Girls when they host Vic Metro on Sunday morning.

After being cruelly denied victory in the final moments against Queensland in the opening game, WA fell to South Australia in their second match despite having more inside 50s.

Trent Cooper, Manager Female Talent Programs and Coaching Specialist at WA Football believes there have been plenty of positives to celebrate.

“We have been really happy with the way the team has played and the quality of the footy they have produced and there have just been a few small things that have been the difference between winning and losing, “ Cooper said.

“The aim of the program is to showcase the talent of the players and we have generally done that which is pleasing.

“We have been disappointed to lose both games because we were the better team for the majority of those matches but with that comes some valuable lessons that the group will take forward.

“This should stand us in good stead for the final two games and will improve their footy knowledge going forward.”

The challenges continue this weekend when the West Aussies face last year’s champions.

“Vic Metro won the title last year and had a good first-up win over South Australia so we know we are in for a tough match at Good Grocer Park on Sunday but are also confident that we will test them if we bring the same energy and application that we have displayed in the first two games,” Cooper said.

Who – WA v Vic Metro

When – 9.30am WA time Sunday

Where – The Good Grocer Park (East Fremantle)

The match can be live streamed at AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
