THERE were once again plenty of standout performances across Round 7 of the WAFLW competition including a record eight-goal haul from a young Peel Thunder star over the weekend.
That meant that competition for spots once again in the WAFLW Team of the Week was fierce for Round 7 following the three matches that took place on Sunday afternoon.
The Round 6 WAFLW action began on Saturday evening in an entertaining contest at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Swan Districts ending up defeating South Fremantle 6.5 (41) to 4.3 (27).
The other two matches took place on Sunday afternoon beginning with Peel Thunder scoring a thumping 18.13 (121) to 0.3 (3) victory over West Perth at Mandurah's Lane Group Stadium.
The final game of the round then took place at Leederville Oval with East Fremantle keeping their unbeaten run going to start 2022 with the 7.10 (52) to 0.2 (2) win against Subiaco.
The Round 7 results mean that East Fremantle is now on top of the WAFLW ladder with a perfect 6-0 record. Claremont (5-1) slips to second spot having suffered their one loss at the expense of the Sharks.
Swan Districts (4-2) remains in third position following a fourth consecutive win while Peel Thunder (3-3) now round out the top four ahead of Subiaco (2-4), South Fremantle (1-5) and West Perth (0-6).
It all leads to another fascinating round to come this weekend for Round 8 beginning on Friday night at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle at home to Subiaco.
Peel Thunder takes on East Fremantle on Saturday at Lane Group Stadium and then Claremont plays Swan Districts at Revo Fitness Stadium.

Each week of the WAFLW season during 2022, we will be selecting a Team of the Week as well, and here's how the side for Round 7 came together.
South Fremantle and Swan Districts opened up the round on Saturday with Swans coming away with a hard earned win over the Bulldogs.
Emily McGuire was a strong performance in the back-line for Swan Districts to earn her place in the Team of the Week for the first time in 2022. She finished with 12 possessions and four marks.
Taylor Pescud is named to the wing after an impressive showing for Swans with 10 disposals, three marks, three tackles and two entries inside the forward 50.
Ashley Sharp continued her impressive form up forward for Swan Districts to earn a spot in the Team of the Week for the third time on the back of kicking two goals from 13 possessions.
Swan Districts captain Jess Cox is just about the form midfielder of the WAFLW competition right now. She earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a fourth time already this season after a dominant performance on Saturday night with 28 touches, four marks, four tackles and two inside 50s.
Courtney Zappara produced her best performance of the season as well for Swan Districts to earn a spot on the interchange with 10 possessions and two goals.
It was a strong showing from South Fremantle despite the eventual loss with Liusaidh Gilchrist earning a spot in the Team of the Week for a second time this season. She is named to half-back after a game made up of 16 disposals, three marks and two tackles.
Returning South Fremantle captain Lauren Vecchio made a good impact in her first game back to earn a spot on the interchange after 17 touches and nine tackles.
Molly O'Hehir also is named to the bench from South Fremantle after finishing the game with 12 possessions and four tackles.
Peel Thunder had a thumping win over West Perth on Sunday with Ebony Dowson outstanding again down back. She was named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time already this season as a result following 17 disposals, four marks and four inside-50 entries.
Chloe Wrigley had another impressive performance to be named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time in 2022. She put together a game made up of 31 possessions, eight tackles, four inside 50s and two marks.
Jade Briggs was named to centre half-forward after impressing for Peel as well with 23 disposals, nine tackles, six marks, four inside 50s and three goals.
Then there was Kate Bartlett who might very well have delivered the best individual performance seen so far in the WAFLW competition. She was named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time on the back of kicking eight goals from 17 kicks and 10 marks.
It might have been a tough afternoon for West Perth but Cameron Dawson battled hard in the ruck and earned a spot in the Team of the Week as a result of finishing with 22 hit outs and four tackles.
East Fremantle scored an emphatic win over Subiaco on Sunday with Hayley O'Donnell named to the Team of the Week at centre half-back on the back of her performance that consisted of 15 possessions and two tackles.
Zipporah Fish produced her most impressive game of the season for East Fremantle as well to be named on the wing after delivering 14 touches and seven entries inside the forward 50.
Larissa Versaci was named at half-forward from East Fremantle after her 22 touches, six marks, five inside-50 entries, three tackles and a goal. Elle Sanders was named to the other half-forward flank after kicking two goals to go with 13 disposals and four marks.
Ashleigh Gomes was tremendous again for East Fremantle in the midfield to earn a spot in the Team of the Week for a fourth time already this season. She produced a game made up of 24 possessions, five inside 50s, three marks and three tackles.
Lauren Catherine produced a good showing in the ruck as well for East Fremantle to earn a place on the bench in the Team of the Week after finishing with nine disposals and 18 hit outs.
Sharon Wong earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a third time in 2022 already too on the back of 17 possessions, 10 tackles and a goal for the Sharks.
It wasn’t the afternoon that Subiaco was hoping for but Clare McCarthy worked hard against the tide down back to earn a spot in the Team of the Week, finishing with six kicks and three handpasses.
