Kalgoorlie, Subiaco product Dewar becomes third WA Rising Star nominee in a row

Kalgoorlie product Tyrell Dewar is the latest West Aussie to earn an AFL Rising Star nomination on the back of a career-best performance for West Coast.
The 21-year-old Mines Rovers junior was one of the shining lights in the Eagles’ loss to Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday, racking up a career-high 27 disposals to go with seven score involvements and a game-high 843 metres gained.
Dewar, who was drafted from WAFL club Subiaco as a Category-B rookie in 2022 after being part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, has taken his game to another level this season.
After playing seven matches last year, Dewar has become an AFL regular in 2025 with 11 appearances.
Drafted as a forward, the talented youngster has shown his versatility by playing various roles including wing and half-back under first-year coach Andrew McQualter.
“It was one of my goals at the start of the year to get a Rising Star,” Dewar told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“I’m stoked that I got it.
“I played as a forward all last year, played seven games and I wanted to come back to pre-season in good nick and impress the new coach, ‘Mini’.
“He said he saw me on the wing and half-back.
“First half against Carlton I was in the backline and then I got the call up to go to the wing in the second half. That was a good move, I loved it there.
“I tried to pull off a few kicks, some didn’t work but some did. I reckon that’s my main danger – taking on those kicks.”
Dewar was the third WA player in as many weeks to get a Rising Star nod after Claremont pair Ed Allan (Collingwood) and Daniel Curtin (Adelaide).
