The West Coast Eagles have helped break down barriers at the International Day of People with Disability.

About 250 people attended the event at Mineral Resources Park last Friday, featuring Blind Auskick, Starkick, and the Rise Inclusion Football Academy – the Decider.

The last match of the event produced a fitting showdown between Team Black and Team Gold.

Hayden Marchetto, Executive Officer at the WA All Abilities Football Association, hailed the afternoon a huge success.

“The participants who attended the game and clinic at the International Day of People with Disability expressed pure joy,” he said.

“The event provided a rare opportunity to engage in footy at an international level sporting facility, helping them feel included and valued.

“There was also a sense of accomplishment, and they loved the supportive and encouraging environment, with Eagles players and staff pitching in and helping out, be it water running or encouragement.

“This event breaks down barriers and fosters a sense of community, where participants connect with the community.”

Marchetto had high praise for the role the West Coast Eagles played on the day.

“The club is a foundation partner of WAAAFA, and they have hosted The Decider (Game 3 of the Rise IFA) since the program’s inception.

“Our thanks go out to the AFL and AFLW players who attended on the day, plus Hugh Jones MLA for contributing to the special day.”
