The second edition of WA Football’s All-Girls Gala Day is set to be the biggest and best yet, building on last year’s historic event.
Des Penman Reserve in Nollamara will host the fun and free all-girls Auskick event which is happening from 9am to 12.30pm.
After more than 40 clubs and 450 players aged 5-12 from across the Perth metropolitan area took part in the inaugural edition, which brought together hundreds of budding female footballers for an inclusive footy experience, there have already been 50 clubs register their interest in Sunday’s event.
Several AFLW and WAFLW stars will be in attendance as well as West Coast AFLW coach and Australian Football Hall of Fame member Daisy Pearce.
There’s plenty of other activities on the day for all ages including DJ, food trucks, a special fun zone including bracelet making, AFLW players signing session and inflatable handball station, a Star Kick come-and-try session, Coach Education session and Superkick activities.
WA Football’s Women & Girls Participation Coordinator and Claremont WAFLW star Claire Ortlepp was excited to build momentum from the success of last year’s landmark event, the first of its kind in any State.
“It was amazing to see so many clubs come together last year to celebrate the power of girls in our game and we’re looking forward to making Sunday’s event even bigger,” Ortlepp said.
“We know that girls have a better experience playing in all-girls groups, so this day is all about giving them the best possible introduction to footy in a fun and supportive setting.
“We’re seeing huge momentum in the women and girls’ space on the back of record-breaking participation numbers in 2025 and events like this reflect how committed we are to building a pathway that starts strong at the grassroots level.
“If clubs don’t have a full team of 10 players, we’ll place girls into teams on the day so everyone can participate in the free and inclusive event.”
“Women and girls football continues to grow, with a 6 per cent increase in participation from 2025.
“And part of that is thanks to events like this – we found that clubs that participated in the All-Girls Gala Day last year actually retained more of their girls in 2026 than other clubs did – girls just can’t get enough of opportunities to play footy with other girls!”
These figures highlight the growing demand and ongoing success of dedicated spaces for girls to kickstart their footy journey.
