The second edition of WA Football’s All-Girls Gala Day at Des Penman Reserve in Nollamara on Sunday was a record-breaking event in what was a significant occasion for women’s footy.

More than 50 clubs and 500 budding girls footballers from across Perth braved the ominous weather to take part in the fun, free and inclusive footy experience, an increase of more than 10 per cent from the inaugural event.

West Coast Eagles coach and AFLW legend Daisy Pearce was the star attraction, while plenty of other AFLW and WAFLW players were involved.

There were plenty of other activities on the day including DJ, food trucks, a special fun zone including bracelet making, AFLW players signing session and inflatable handball station, a Star Kick come-and-try session and Coach Education session.

Pearce highlighted the importance of the event in encouraging the next generation of AFLW and WAFLW stars that they belong in the sport.

“It’s such an important day to let them come and realise they belong in footy and to get with their mates and enjoy the best bits about the game,” Pearce said.

WA Football’s Women & Girls Participation Coordinator and Claremont WAFLW star Claire Ortlepp was proud to see such an amazing turnout.

“It was fantastic to come together and celebrate the power of girls in our game, with a record-breaking number of young female footballers taking part,” Ortlepp said.

“The event was all about giving them the best possible introduction to footy in a fun and supportive setting and we feel like we achieved that.

“We’re seeing huge momentum in the women and girls’ space on the back of record-breaking participation numbers in 2025 which we’re on track to break once again this year.”

Women and girls football continues to grow, with a 6% increase in participation from 2025.

These figures highlight the growing demand and ongoing success of dedicated spaces for girls to kickstart their footy journey.
