2013 Landmark Country Football Championships

The best country footballers from around the State will descend on Perth for the 2013 Landmark Country Football Championships tomorrow, Thursday, July 11.

Teams will feature former AFL and WAFL talent including Callum Chambers and Brent LeCras (Central Midlands Coastal), Leith Teakle and Calib Mourish (Great Northern), Chris Billings and Tim Noakes (South West) and Scott Siekierka (Avon).

Former Collingwood and Perth player Leon Davis could also be a late addition to the Avon Football Association side after returning home to play for Northam Railways this season.

The Landmark Championships will be played at various WAFL grounds over three days and include three senior divisions and a Colts competition. Qualifying games will be played on Thursday and Friday, followed by finals on Saturday.

Division 1 will compete in a round-robin format this year, giving those teams the chance to play each other at least once.

WA Country Football League General Manager Joe Georgiades said he was excited about the level of football that would be displayed over the course of the carnival.

“We’ve got country footballers coming to Perth from all around the State for the three day carnival so there will be a lot of talent running around. We are hoping the new look format encourages the best country players to attend the carnival” he said.

Senior sections will be played at Arena Joondalup, Claremont Oval, Brownes Stadium, East Fremantle Oval, Medibank Stadium and Steel Blue Oval

All Colts games will be played at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah giving the teams to play at a great stadium in the city of Mandurah.

“Country WA has a proud tradition of producing top players, so the competition offers the chance to see some of the best developing players before they move on to the WAFL or AFL,” Georgiades said.
