Altone Park set to benefit from lighting upgrade

Football Clubs at Altone Park including Beechboro Junior Football Club, East Perth Women’s Football Club and Swans District Junior Football Umpires Association (SDJFUA), will benefit from a $100,000 election commitment to upgrade lighting at the venue.

The commitment was announced yesterday by Federal Member for Cowan Luke Simpkins on behalf of the Turnbull Coalition Team.

West Australian Football Commission Metro Central Development Manager Isaac Stewart said the enhancement of Altone Park was a strategic priority for the WAFC Central Conference that was critical to the expansion of Beechboro Junior Football Club, East Perth Women’s Football Club and the SDJFUA in the next decade.

“Altone Park is utilised by a number of different user groups which source coaches, players and umpires from across the seat of Cowan including Ballajura, Beechboro, Bennett Springs, Kiara, Lockridge and Whiteman,” he said.

“Beechboro Junior Football Club has an Auskick Centre, Year 4 and 5 teams, whilst East Perth Women’s Football Club has a Youth Girls and West Australian Women’s Football League (WAWFL) Team.

“The SDJFUA has 65 umpires in the Swans District Junior Competition and WAFC Central Conference. The East Perth District Football Development Council (EPDFDC) also utilises Altone Park for the Nicky Winmar Academy, which is a community development program designed to increase the number of Indigenous boys aged 13 to 15 playing junior football.

“The Altone Park development will also permit the WAFC Central Conference to host AFL 9s, Auskick Gala Days, Coaching Academies, Junior Competition Finals, Junior Academies and Youth Girls Leagues,” he said.

Mr Simpkins said the Turnbull Coalition Team understood that by investing in projects such as this one, it would help grow a more vibrant and viable community.

“The upgraded lighting is vital to the continued growth of community sport and participation in the area. It will allow greater flexibility for training, games and events.

“This project will also benefit a number of user groups across junior, senior, women’s and indigenous sporting backgrounds which will help grow a more vibrant and viable community.”
