Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club’s Starkick Program has been named as a finalist for the 2016/17 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.

The Starkick Program, which was selected from among 70 nominations, provides an opportunity for children of all ability levels, including those with disability, to play football.

Now in its second year, there are close to 50 Starkick participants from all over Perth, which includes children with autism, cerebral palsy and vision impairment.

Coolbinia Bombers JFC Community Engagement Officer Shawn Pearson said the club was thrilled to be named as an award finalist.

“As a volunteer a junior football club in the East Perth District, to be a finalist is amazing let alone be mentioned alongside events and organisations like, ‘HBF Run for a Reason’ and ‘Surfing WA’s Drug Aware Margaret River Pro’.

“We’d really like to take the opportunity to thank the Starkick Program’s key supporters and partners, Fremantle Football club and Kalparrin, a not-for-profit organisation that supports families with special needs children,” he said.

Other award finalists include the HBF Run for a Reason, Denmark Basketball Association, Surfing WA’s Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, Heart Foundation’s Healthy Active by Design, Netball WA’s Shooting Stars program and City of Armadale’s U Fit – Park Edition initiative.

Winners will be announced at the prestigious Sport and Recreation Industry Awards Presentation Breakfast on 26 July, 2016
