Now that the State of Origin teams are officially locked in ahead of next week’s blockbuster clash at Perth’s Optus Stadium, we take a look at which WAFL clubs will feature in the long-awaited return of AFL Origin.

Eight of the 10 WAFL clubs will be represented next Saturday evening against Victoria, with Claremont and Swan Districts leading the way with six apiece.

East Fremantle are the next best with four players, including WA captain Patrick Cripps and trio Luke Jackson, Trent Rivers and Chad Warner who remarkably all played in the same EGT WAFL Colts side back in 2019.

Jackson, Rivers and Warner also featured for WA’s carnival-winning under-18s side that year, with Mitch Georgiades also in the squad but didn’t play because of injury.

South Fremantle (three) and Subiaco (two) also have multiple Origin representatives.

Newly-announced West Coast captain Liam Baker was drafted from Subiaco after featuring in a losing senior grand final against Peel Thunder in 2017, but played colts and reserves for West Perth earlier in his career.

East Perth did have one product set to play, Brisbane Lions premiership star turned West Coast recruit Brandon Starcevich who was ruled out during the week with injury.

There’s a fairly even split between City and County with 14 of the 25-man squad playing for metro junior clubs and 11 from regional WA to go with coach Dean Cox who’s a Dampier product.

All bar one of the players, Melbourne premiership star Kysaiah Pickett, who was raised in Quairading in country WA before moving to South Australia.
