A trio of WAFL exports impressed in Tasmania’s historic victory in their long-awaited debut.

Former East Fremantle teammates Jed Hagan and Hugh Dixon combined for eight majors in the hard-fought 17-point VFL win over Coburg in front of a sold-out crowd at North Hobart Oval.

Hagan, a former Under-18s All-Australian, was arguably the Devils’ best player, booting 4.3 and laying a game-high 10 tackles to set the tone for his new team.

Hagan will be a big loss for East Fremantle after topping their goal-kicking last season with 28 majors including five in the thrilling Elimination Final loss to Perth in what was his final appearance for the club.

Dixon, part of the Sharks’ 2023 Sullivan Logistics WAFL premiership side, had the equal-most goals in the contest alongside Hagan, with the pair seemingly in everything inside Tasmania’s forward 50.

Young gun Jaxon Artemis, a former WA State 18s MVP who moved to the Apple Isle after winning the 2025 WAFL flag with South Fremantle, was lively across half-back with 16 disposals, four marks and three tackles.

Both Hagan and Artemis have been on the radar of AFL clubs over the years and will be looking to enhance their AFL Draft credentials this year.

Tasmania will play in the VFL for the next two seasons before their highly-anticipated entry into the AFL.
