The younger brother of Fremantle superstar Hayden Young has joined South Fremantle ahead of the 2026 Sullivan Logistics WAFL season.

Josh Young, a 191cm defender, made his debut across half-back for the reigning WAFL champs in Saturday’s win over West Coast at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The 22-year-old relocated to WA during the off-season and has moved in with his older brother Hayden who’s been in Perth since getting drafted by the Dockers with pick seven in the 2019 AFL National Draft.

Josh has two older brothers who played AFL, with eldest sibling Lachie Young tallying 47 appearances for Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne.

Josh most recently played for Somerville Football Netball Club in the Mornington Peninsula competition.

He’s expected to be in the mix for senior selection for the Bulldogs’ season opener against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Good Friday.

Souths have one more senior pre-season hit-out before the opening round – a grand final re-match against East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Saturday, kicking off at 11.40am.
