Who impressed in annual Young Guns game

Several 2027 AFL Draft prospects put their best foot forward in the annual Young Guns talent showcase at The Good Grocer Park in East Fremantle on Saturday.

West Perth on-baller Campbell Creyk was among the standouts, finding plenty of it in the engine room.

Creyk wasn’t the only Falcon to impress with Rafe Williamson looking the goods across half-back in the first half before being put on ice and key defender Tadhg Barrowclough standing tall in defence.

David Shanahan, a 196cm key back from Swan Districts who’s part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, also had some big moments.

Subiaco talent Sam O’Brien celebrated his EGT WAFL Colts Team of the Year selection alongside fellow standout Barrowclough, with a stellar performance in the midfield.

East Fremantle’s Aiden Wilson, who was a key player in WA’s drought-breaking National Under-16s Title, caught the eye on the wing.

Several notable names didn’t play in the match including likely Tasmania recruit Axel Walsh who was rested after a big WAFL finals campaign for East Perth’s league and reserves sides.

East Fremantle midfielder Troy Warner, who won the Kevin Sheehan Medal at this year’s National Under-16s Championships, was out with a back injury.

Players involved in Sunday’s EGT WAFL Colts decider, won by East Fremantle against Derby rivals South Fremantle at Optus Stadium, also didn’t play including talents Sharks James Artemis and Hunter Hearn and Jack Clarke Medal winner Chace Vanderhoek.
