This weekend is our special SuperKids SuperHeroes NAB AFL Auskick round, where we come together to remember and pay tribute to a courageous young hero, Declan Kane. In 2017, at the age of 8, Declan lost his battle with neuroblastoma. His memory lives on through the SuperKids SuperHeroes fundraising group, founded by his parents.

This weekend junior participants around the state are being encouraged to dress up in their favourite superhero costume and take to the footy field with their mates, all to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.

Now in its fifth year, this round continues to gain popularity each year and the incredible power of unity between the WAFC, NAB AFL Auskick, Community Clubs and SuperKids SuperHeroes has resulted in raising nearly $30,000 for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Auskick Specialist Michelle Sewell said this round is in honour of Declan and the many other kids who have and are battling cancer.

“I am privileged to work with the SuperKids SuperHeroes team to raise awareness for childhood cancer through NAB AFL Auskick,” she said.

“This is a fun event for the Auskickers, coaches and families which engages our football community, and it is always great to see our Community Clubs embracing and celebrating this round.”

Executive Manager of Game Development and Community Football, Troy Kirkham, said he is proud the WA football community can support this great cause.

“This is a significant round for Auskick participants and the community clubs each year, whilst raising funds to fight childhood cancer,” he said.

Let us remember Declan and all the young superheroes fighting cancer. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where every child has a chance to win their battle against this disease.

Enjoy the game, embrace the spirit of the Superheroes Round, and let the power of compassion and unity guide us all.
