Grant Dorrington OAM, BEM had a playing and coaching career spanning 15 years with East Perth, which saw him awarded Life Membership at the club in 1990.

In 1985 Dorrington coached the WA State 18s team to victory in the National Championships and was named the All-Australian coach. His success continued, being named the inaugural recipient of the JJ Leonard Award for WA Coach of the Year.

He spent more than 38 years in a range of Football administration roles during a dynamic period in which WA Football experienced exceptional growth.

Dorrington’s management as an administrator covered four decades in which the West Australian Football Commission, West Coast Eagles Football Club, Fremantle Football Club, and Peel Thunder Football Club were established.

Dorrington’s contributions to football extend far beyond his playing days.

He is one of WA’s longest serving football administrators and has made a significant contribution to the development and growth of WA Football at all levels of the game.

From grassroots initiatives to state leagues, Dorrington’s influence, commitment and leadership at a time when the WAFC was first established, were instrumental in developing the strategic direction for football that drove funding, sponsorship and promotional opportunities with key partners such as the AFL and external agencies.

His legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of WA Football for years to come.
