Junior club volunteers from Metro North, Metro Central, and Metro South Conferences took part in the WA Football AFL Nines Volunteer Appreciation Carnival last Friday night.
The event saw 170 volunteers take part in the Carnival with seven teams playing in the Men’s Division and seven teams making up the Mixed Division.
These teams comprised of club volunteers, who not only dedicate their time and effort to supporting their junior clubs but also showcased their competitiveness and skill on the field.
The event served as a testament to the integral role that volunteers play in supporting grassroots football, engaging the community, and creating a sense of belonging.
Highlighting the evening was the impressive fundraising effort, with $2000 raised for Sports Care. Chad Harding, representing Sports Care, was presented with the cheque, emphasising football’s commitment to supporting health and well-being initiatives within the community.
West Australian Football Commission’s Club Development and Volunteers Specialist, Zachary Binning said it was fantastic to see so many dedicated volunteers representing their clubs at the carnival.
“Without volunteers, football would not take place and we look forward to growing this initiative in the future,” Binning said.”
In the Men’s Division, Mount Hawthorn JFC emerged victorious, with High Wycombe JFC securing the runner-up position.
The Mixed Division saw Huntingdale JFC claim the top spot, while Caversham JFC finished as the runner-up.
The event was an initiative of the Club Development and Volunteers team to thank volunteers for their contributions both on and off the field to ensure that football continues to thrive at the grassroots level, providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills and passion for the game.
To further recognise community football volunteers, nominations are now open for the 2024 WA Football Volunteer of the Year Awards and can be accessed here.
