The winner of the 2024 WA Football Volunteer of the Year has significantly contributed to the Morley Junior Football Club’s growth and development.
John Pinneri has held numerous volunteer positions at the club, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Coach, Assistant Coach, Runner, Team Manager, Boundary Umpire, Goal Umpire, Interchanger, First-Aider, Canteen Manager, Line-marker, Banner Maker, and Graphic Designer – there isn’t a role Pinneri hasn’t done.
Pinneri, affectionately known as JP, has supported the club’s expansion developing the female pathway within the club, securing funding for lighting and upgrades to the clubrooms and canteen.
WAFC Club Development and Volunteer Specialist, Jenne Russell said JP has been the driving force behind the club’s positive development and is a role model for creating a fun and inclusive environment for players and the community.
“It’s always difficult selecting the winner of the WA Football Volunteer of the Year award,” Russell said.
“This year we had 17 finalists from each district and region across the state who were all worthy recipients.
“JP’s dedication to the Morley Junior Football Club and the wider community really shone through And I congratulate JP on this well-deserved achievement.”
Pinneri said volunteering at the club has been rewarding.
“Being part of a community, not necessarily just a footy club, but being part of a community and meeting people just makes you feel really good.” Pinneri said.
“There’s a misconception that being part of a footy club and being on the committee and having responsibilities creates anxiety, because everyone is time poor.
“I think it’s actually the opposite; I think it’s been great for my mental health.
“It’s very uplifting at times, there are challenges, but being part of a group of people who get through these challenges really lifts your spirits.”
John, nominated as the WA Football Volunteer of the Year finalist from the East Perth district, receives $4000 and a one-year subscription from the Sunday Times.
The West Australian Football Commission congratulates Pinneri on his award.
