State Talent and Draft"
WA Football has named a squad of 27 players for next month’s Kia State match against South Australia at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Subiaco has the most representatives with six players selected, while reigning WAFLW premiers Claremont and Perth each have five players in the group.
Chairman of Selectors Trent Cooper is excited about the quality of the squad.
“The improved depth in the ATCO WAFLW competition has made selection harder this year but we have picked a well-balanced squad,” Cooper said.
“We have 13 players returning from last year’s state team, with a mix of young and experienced players coming into the squad.”

Part of that experience comes in the form of Dhara Kerr Medallists Jayme Harken and Krstel Petrevski while Swan Districts midfield star Jaime Henry, who missed state selection in 2025, has been in outstanding touch for the unbeaten black and whites.

“We had an extensive watch list before the ATCO WAFLW season and everyone in this squad was on that list, but Jaime Henry’s form has taken her from a possible to a near-certain selection,” he said.
“We’ve always thought that young players like Juliet Kelly, Lucy Greenwood and Sienna Timmermans can impact at this level and they have also started the WAFLW season well.”
In-form players have been the priority for Cooper and coach Jack Schwarze.
“It’s been very important,” Cooper said.
“We decided that we wanted in-form players for this game and players that might have been considered walk-up starts weren’t selected on reputation alone.
“Everyone in the squad has been playing good footy at WAFLW level and that gives us confidence when we pick the side to take on South Australia.
Cooper has the utmost respect for WA’s opposition.
“South Australia have a very experienced side, and they knocked off Victoria last week so we know that we will need experience to compete at that level,” he said.
“We also have a lot of youth with 12 of the players being 21 or under and we see the athletic profile of this squad as a point of difference that can really challenge South Australia.”
WA plays South Australia at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday, May 16.
