South Fremantle speedster Cam Maynard impressed on the final day of testing at the AFL National Draft Combine in Melbourne on Saturday.

The exciting small forward, fresh of an EGT WAFL Colts Grand Final appearance for the Bulldogs, recorded the second-fastest time in the 20m sprint with a blistering effort of 2.898 seconds.

Only Mason McGroder, a dual-sport athlete who’s weighing up whether to pursue a career in the AFL or athletics, produced a quicker time with 2.827 seconds.

It was a PB-fest again for Western Australia in the 20m sprint with all seven WA boys recording personal-best times in another fantastic day after their efforts in the 2km time trial on Thursday.

Hard-working Swan Districts midfielder Leo Steed, who is firming as a first-round selection, was WA’s next best in the 20m sprint with 3.02 seconds.

Claremont pair – midfielder/half-back Heath Mellody (3.04 seconds) and ruck giant Benji van Rooyen (3.08 seconds) also impressed in the 20m sprint.

Steed backed up his eye-catching 20m sprint and 2km time trial performances with a top-10 finish in the agility testing, recording a time of 8.068 seconds which placed him eighth overall.

Maynard finished just outside of top-10 rankings for the agility with 8.12 seconds.

It came after each of the seven West Aussies competing at the combine record 2km personal-best times on Thursday in a massive result for the AAMI WA Football Talent Program.

State 18s Boys co-captain Steed, coming off a brilliant year which included AFL Under-18s All-Australian honours and a strong season for Swan Districts seniors, was the quickest of the WA contingent with a blistering time of 6:09.

The prolific midfielder-forward’s time ranked him fifth overall.

Fellow State 18s skipper and Claremont wingman George Gale, who was also named in the Under-18s All-Australian Team, was the next best for WA, three seconds behind Steed with an impressive feat of 6:12 with was equal-seventh overall.
