Champion Club Event Honours CorriginWednesday, August 20, 2025 - 3:05 PM

The Corrigin Football Club has become the first country club in Western Australia to achieve Premiership Level through the Champion Club Program.

The Champion Club Recognition Event was held at the Oxford Hotel last week with more than 150 people and 34 clubs/leagues in attendance from across WA (WA Football Metro Juniors, Perth Football League, Country Football WA).

The evening celebrated clubs, volunteers, and leaders with 56 clubs and leagues from across the state formally inducted into the Champion Club Program.

Representatives from the club travelled about three hours to attend the event, highlighting their commitment to celebrating the milestone and the importance of this initiative to community clubs.

Kelli and Erin, part of the Corrigin FC Executive Committee, detailed the benefits of being part of the program.

“When we first looked at the Champion Club Program, it was partly a competitive challenge we wanted to be the first country club to reach both Foundation and Premiership Levels,” they said.

“But as we got into the program, we realised it was much more than just a title.

“It gave us a structured way to strengthen our governance, formalise processes, and set a foundation for future committees.

“Sometimes we didn’t know the answers or how to proceed, and while previous committees were always helpful, there was no formal documentation.

“The Champion Club Program helped us create clear processes to ensure sustainability and continuity.

“The program kept us focused and accountable.

“One of our biggest achievements was creating a comprehensive club website, which now serves as a vital resource for both our members and the community.

“This recognition honours our volunteers, players, and supporters, showing our club is a place where people belong and thrive both on and off the field.

“Becoming the first country club in WA to achieve Premiership Level is not just an accolade, but a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in Corrigin FC.”

Zachary Binning, Club Development & Volunteer Specialist at WA Football, has spoken about the importance of the initiative.

“The Champion Club Recognition Event was a special evening celebrating the dedication of clubs, volunteers, and leaders across WA,” Binning said.

“This program is essential for strengthening governance, supporting sustainability, and ensuring grassroots football clubs thrive now and into the future.”
