WA’s 18s Side Aims For Successful Raid Against AlliesWednesday, August 9, 2023 - 9:05 AM

WA coach Beau McDonald is expecting a strong response from his side in Sunday’s match against the Allies at Blacktown in NSW.

WA is seeking its first victory in the 2023 AFL National Championships-U18 Girls after suffering a 35-point defeat to South Australia in the opening match at Pentanet Stadium in April.

McDonald has the task of juggling an extended time between matches for the players.

“Off the back of a great WAFLW season and finals series we feel the girls are ready to show off their talent,” McDonald said.

“But having a long period between game one and two has been a challenge, but the upside is they are match fit from a WAFLW season,” he said.

“Time together is always a challenge but training has been strong so they should have the confidence to perform.”

In the opening match against South Australia Zippy Fish was prominent with 13 disposals, Ella Slocombe kicked a 1 goal to go with her 15 touches and Mackenzie Webb was a strong contributor in defence.

McDonald’s mantra is to take the game on.

“We like to play exciting football with run and carry and value defending when we don’t have the ball.

“They are very excited to travel together and test themselves on a national stage.”

The game can be live-streamed here.
