The 2024 AFL National Academy Boys squad will come together in Melbourne this weekend to take part in their first high-performance camp.
WA will be represented by Bo Allan, a product of Halls Heads and the Peel Thunder Football Club, along with Subiaco’s Malakai Champion, who hails from Mines Rovers.
Twenty-six of the country’s most promising footballers born in 2006 will feature as part of the 27th intake of the AFL National Academy Boys program.
The AFL National Academy is an accelerated football and personal development program that provides the next generation of stars with experiences, learnings and further opportunities to best prepare them for the next steps in their football journey.
This weekend’s camp in Melbourne is the first of three high-performance camps the squad will feature in as part of the Academy program. The remaining two camps will be held during the 2024 season.
Players will engage in a range of football, education, wellbeing and team-bonding sessions during this weekend’s induction camp.
The squad will train at VU Whitten Oval from on Friday, December 8 before travelling to Geelong where they will take engage in a range of activities across Friday afternoon and Saturday, including an inner sanctum experience at GMHBA Stadium.
The camp will conclude with a training session at The Hangar, home of Essendon Football Club, on Sunday morning.
AFL National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer said: “We are extremely excited to have the 2024 AFL National Academy Boys come together for the first time this weekend.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with these talented young footballers and provide them with new learnings and experiences to further enhance their development and support their aspirations to play at the highest level possible.”
An induction camp for the 2024 AFL National Academy Girls program will be held in January. Further details will be announced ahead of the camp.
