PEEL Thunder kept its winning form going to open the WAFL season with Claremont also impressing in a win over Subiaco to open its account in Saturday's Round 4 action.
There were just two matches in Round 4 of the WAFL with both contests taking place on Saturday afternoon while East Fremantle, East Perth, Perth, South Fremantle, Swan Districts and West Perth all had the bye.
West Coast and Peel did battle at Optus Stadium in the lead up to Saturday night's Western Derby with the Eagles having just come off ending a 28-game winless streak in the WAFL and looking for consecutive wins.
It wasn’t to be, though, with the Thunder proving too strong to end up winning 18.15 (123) to 7.13 (55) to improve last year's grand finalists to a 3-1 record to open the 2024 season.
Patrick Voss kicked two goals in the win for the Thunder while Will Brodie amassed 33 disposals, Karl Worner 28, Brady Grey 26 and Heath Chapman 26.
Trey Ruscoe kicked two goals for the Eagles while Zane Trew had 27 possessions and Jamaine Jones 22.
Claremont then scored its first win of the season beating Subiaco 11.12 (78) to 8.9 (57) at Revo Fitness Stadium.
The Tigers had suffered two last gasp losses to West Perth and South Fremantle by a combined three points to start the season, but they got on the board on Saturday against the Lions with Alec Waterman and Alex Manuel kicking three goals each.
Oliver Eastland racked up 21 possessions, 44 hit outs and two goals in a best on ground performance while Jye Bolton gathered 26 touches, Bailey Rogers 24 and Lachlan Martinis 22.
Jack Mayo and Ryan Borchet kicked two goals each for Subiaco with Luke Foley picking up 28 touches and Liam Hickmott 27.
