THE Activ WA Day WAFL Round takes place across three days this long weekend with all five games fascinating in their own right wrapped up by the traditional South Fremantle-East Fremantle, and West Perth-East Perth derbies.
WA Day Round in the WAFL gets underway on Saturday afternoon with Claremont at home to Peel Thunder at Revo Fitness Stadium.
Peel comes into the game in top spot and on a five-game winning run while Claremont needs a win to stay in the top five hunt after last week's loss to West Coast.
The other Saturday afternoon game sees Subiaco play host to Swan Districts at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the Lions out to snap a four-game losing run to stay in touch with the top five.
It's a significant day for Swans who not only will be looking for another win to consolidate their spot in the top five, but three-time fairest and best winner Tony Notte will become the seventh man in WAFL history to reach 300 games on the occasion.
In typical fashion, his focus is on the team and trying to get what would be just the 12th win in 36 matches of his career against Subiaco, and just a sixth in 19 attempts at Leederville.
"Subi have been the benchmark of the competition pretty much through my whole career and even now they still have great players across all lines," Notte said.
"We know this competition is so close that there's no easy games so we'll be expecting another really close and hard game against them like always.
"But the beers do always taste a bit better after a win so hopefully that's the case but it's more important that this could set up the rest of our season going into another bye.
"If we can put a little gap on a couple of times below us by getting a win and staying in the top five then that would be a nice position for us to be in after this weekend."
There's then a standalone game on Sunday and it takes place at Henry Street Oval in Northam with Perth and the West Coast Eagles locking horns from 11.10am with both teams hunting a third win of 2024.
That all leads into the traditional derbies to take place on WA Day on Monday afternoon starting with the 62nd meeting for the occasion between South Fremantle and East Fremantle with the Bulldogs leading the current record 36 to 25.
They will lock horns at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle at 5-2 in third place and East Fremantle as reigning premiers fourth at 4-3 just to further heighten the stakes.
Last up will be West Perth taking on East Perth at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium with the Falcons hunting a bounce back win to improve on their 3-4 start while the Royals are in hot form just percentage off top spot at 6-1 with four wins on the trot.
