Round 15 WAFLW PreviewFriday, June 7, 2024 - 9:30 AM - by Chris Pike

IT is the second last round of the WAFLW season and things are reaching fever pitch both in the battle over second spot and the fight between three teams over fourth.

East Fremantle might be locked into the minor premiership coming into Round 15 of the 2024 WAFLW season and East Perth and Peel Thunder might be out of the finals hunt, but the other five teams are locked in fascinating battles.

That includes West Perth and Claremont fighting over second place and a finals double chance could be pivotal with the Falcons and Tigers only separated by percentage with two games remaining.

Then there is the fight over fourth spot with Swan Districts currently there at 6-6 but Subiaco and South Fremantle are hot on their heels just a game back at 5-7.

The penultimate round in the WAFLW gets underway on Saturday afternoon with South Fremantle in a must-win situation hosting the bottom placed Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Next up at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with Subiaco at home to Claremont with the Lions needing a win to remain a chance to play finals while the Tigers must win too to be a chance to return to second place.

Also on Saturday afternoon is the league-leading East Fremantle looking for a 10th consecutive win up against East Perth trying to snap a four-game losing run.

Last up on Saturday night at Pentanet Stadium in Joondalup is West Perth hosting Swan Districts. It's crucial for both teams with the Falcons out to remain in second with a fourth straight win while Swans need to win too to stay where they are in fourth.

West Perth coach Clint Degebrodt is delighted to see how things have come together for the Falcons this year, but knows they need to keep winning.

"It's tracking ahead of all that we planned, that's for sure. We were hoping to turn at this point to be about six or seven wins so to be at nine means we're ahead of where we thought we'd be," Degebrodt said.

"There might have been a couple of lucky ones in recent weeks in terms of who was leading for most of the game or at the siren, but we'll take that.

"I'm immensely proud of the players to stick at it and come from behind especially to do it from three goals down. That's rare in the WAFLW space and we were able to do it two times in three weeks, but we're working on not getting three goals down."
