The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), the governing body of football in Western Australia, is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner. The role of the Commission is to protect and to grow football by overseeing the promotion, development and management of football throughout the State and provide guidance, planning and leadership to all levels of the game.
The West Australian Football Commission 2023-2025 Strategic Plan is driven by our vision “the game for all Western Australians” and aims to ensure that the growth of Football in Western Australia is sustainable into the future.
We are seeking a diversified representation of Commissioners, by reference to skills, gender, culture, background, ethnicity and age, who can assist in leading both the WAFC and the WA Football Industry through a period of new opportunities, support the good governance and accountability of our organisation, and foster strong relationships with all stakeholders connected to our game.
Experience and exposure to community sport, not just football, will be highly regarded. A level of participation and engagement is required with stakeholders as well as the ability to contribute actively at Board level with independence and objectivity. Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Governance course is a desirable qualification.
There are three positions to be filled, of which each of the current Commissioners are required to retire by rotation and are eligible to stand again and may be seeking reappointment. The three appointments will be effective for a 3-year term from 1 January 2025 to 1 January 2028. The position of Commissioner is not remunerated.
The Commission is a not-for-profit sports association established in 1989 and is responsible for the overall development and strategic direction of football in Western Australia. The Commission oversees the West Australian Football League, Junior and Senior Community Football including regional football, women’s football, Auskick and inclusive football. The ownership of Indian Pacific Limited (West Coast Eagles) and the Fremantle Football Club is controlled by the Commission as subsidiaries of its business.
As the Commission strives to be as diverse as the communities we represent, we actively encourage applications from women, indigenous and multicultural candidates.
