Your guide to the Kia WAFL State clash against SANFLFriday, May 16, 2025 - 7:00 PM - by Jordan McArdle

The Kia WAFL State team take on the SANFL at Adelaide Oval on Saturday morning. Here’s what you need to know.

Head-to-head record: The SANFL leads the WAFL 51-48 heading into their historic 100th clash.

Recent history: The SANFL have won the last five State matches against the WAFL, with WA last lifting the Haydn Bunton Jr Cup back in 2018.

WAFL team news: The WAFL have named 14 debutants for the match, Peel Thunder premiership coach Adam Read’s first in charge. East Perth co-captain Christian Ameduri will skipper the team on debut. No players from the 2018 victory remain with South Fremantle captain Chad Pearson and East Fremantle veteran Cameron Eardley the most experienced State players named with four games piece. Subiaco young gun and former Port Adelaide-listed midfielder Taj Schofield was cleared to play after a hamstring scare against Swan Districts last Saturday.

SANFL team news: The home side could have as many as five debutants including young ruckman Jordan Lukac who will go head-to-head against East Perth man mountain Scott Jones. Former Richmond big man Liam McBean will captain SA, while former West Coast player Matthew Allen, ex-Sydney Swan James Bell and former Essendon goalsneak Will Snelling are among the other notable names for the Croweaters. None of ex-WAFL trio Angus Schumacher, Mitch Crowden (East Perth) and reigning Sandover medallist Nik Rokahr (Swan Districts) were picked.

How to watch: The game will be streamed live on SANFL Now – live and free from 10am WST on Saturday.

Stats: There will be live stats on the WAFL website's match centre (not available on the WAFL App).
